The background of the day of Pentecost is that it was a feast day of Israelites celebrating the day God gave the Law to Israel and the start of the dwelling presence of God among Israel

Exodus 19-20

God planned that it would be on the day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit would be poured out on the first Christians. Pentecost in Old Testament times celebrated the covenant between God and the people of Israel as a marriage covenant. Pentecost is a reminder that God enters into a covenant with us.
